Day 6: Saltburn to Runswick Bay

We loved our stay at Brockley Hall in Saltburn. The dinner was fabulous, the room was fabulous and the breakast…you’ve guessed it, fabulous. The boys loved their Texas breakfast of bacon, eggs, pancakes and maple syrup. they certainly needed it this morning as the weather turned and it was a wet start to the day, in fact it was damp for

most of the day, the start of the walk took us down to the sea front and quite quickly up onto the cliff tops to pick up the coastal path. We passed some walking groups who were interested to chat to the boys about their hike and as always were impressed with how many miles they‘ve done, you really don’t see any children doing the hike.

We arrived in Staithe by early afternoon so decided to grab some food from a gorgeous little deli and sit by the harbour until the rain started again and pushed us onward. Another steep climb out of the village and back up on the cliff tops.

We are staying in Whitby this evening (purely because of what accommodation was available) and knew we’d never make Saltburn to Whitby but by 6:30pm we had arrived in Runswick Bay and decided it was time to call it a day, I think all of us could have gone on for another hour or so but by then we would have been in the middle of nowhere so we booked a car and made our way to the Royal Hotel Whitby for a fish and chip supper.

Very nice to have view of Whitby Abbey from our room window, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
