Day 1: Cleveland Way, Helmsley to Kilburn
We finally started our ten day hike after months of preparation. The night before we started we hit our third target of £2,000 so we were able to increase it to the new target of £2,500. Thanks again to everyone who has supported us so far.
We started our day in beautiful Helmsley after a big breakfast at the Kings Head, Kirby Moorside. The weather was glorious for most of the day apart from a short but sudden downpour in the afternoon.
We made a short detour to visit Rievaulx Abby which was amazing, we also met a lady called Debby with Iggy her visla puppy who chatted to us about our hike, Debby followed @boyswhohike on Instagram and was kind enough to make a donation via our just giving page. thanks Debby!
It was a tough day, over 12 miles with heavier backpacks than we normally have on our daily hikes and certainly a lot more hills than Norfolk!
A good dinner and a nights rest at the Forresters Arms in Kilburn and we’ll
be off again in the morning.
