SNOW WHITE, 7 POOFS, A PIANO

Panto season might be over in most places but it’s alive and kicking in Brighton with Snow White, 7 Poofs and a Piano at the Paganini Theatre.

This year’s production from the team behind Brighton’s original alternative pantomime is a great way to end the season on a high. It has a very witty and naughty script by Brad Fitt and features spot on direction and choreography from Simon Fielding. The cast of seasoned performers certainly put their all into this show with Jason Prince and Sandra hamming it up in brilliant style, proving what real troupers they are. Prince is hugely funny and Sandra slinks around the stage like a cat that has had the cream.

Special mention has to be made this year of David Raven who plays the Nurse and to Cassidy Connors playing Ja’maka Hormone, the nurse who is looking after the nurse, the belly laughs come thick and fast from this pair. I have long been a fan of Topsie Redfern and she gets to showcase her stunning vocals to great effect as Snow White. There’s fabulous support from Russell Keith as Prince Charming and David Roper playing the piano, who never gets put off when the inevitable happens and his fellow cast members go off script. The whole production works perfectly and the cast deliver a show based in tradition with a lovely touch and a contemporary twist. We also got a video surprise during the show, but you need to book tickets to find out what that is. The whole thing is fantastic panto fun and a great night out.
